DEEP held its winter quarter social at Foothill and De Anza College on January 24th and 25th respectively. Students had the opportunity to:

• Meet fellow science and engineering students
• Learn about the $20,000 scholarship opportunity at UC Santa Cruz
• Join the discussion on this year's summer, paid DEEP Engineering Internships
• Discuss future industry and academic fieldtrips to EA Games, UCLA, UCI, CPUSLO & CSULB
• Enjoy free food and drinks

In addition, students got the opportunity to participate in a competition to build sail cars. Each group of two students received a brown paper lunch bag containing ten drinking straws, scissors, four beads with holes large enough for straws to pass through, scotch tape and one sheet of paper. The objective was to construct a sail car that can travel the farthest distance by having one team member blow once on the car. Winning teams won prizes.
